posted: 1/17/2010 8:23:06 AM Shalender Sharma JiSSA Thank you very much for clarifying the issues on January 11, 2010, the ones I mentioned on November 27, 2009. The kind of steps you have taken certainly boosts the objectives of the program. 1) In late 2009 itself, I alerted the Vakatippa School officials to report appropriately the recent data on the compound wall and hopefully they did so at least this year. Now, I passed on to the school the references you quoted as guidelines for future continued accuracy. 2) Today while reviewing a Mandapeta based Annapurna school's report card, I come across number of class rooms discrepancy which may be affecting across the nation where multiple schools (elementary, Upper primary, High School, Jr High School combined buildings) vs. pertinent single school owners quality. For example, Annapurna schools have 24 classrooms and 8 other rooms. For both the elementary school code and for the Upper primary school code the management filled as if 24 class rooms [perhaps the filled form may not distinguish the details?], there by SCR (Student - Class room Ratio) different for each of those two schools based upon the number of students. In addition, the same school is hosting IX and X graders also in that complex, and too it was converted into Jr. College recently, perhaps using the same number of classrooms. If in fact, if a school has only up to elementary school and same student strength as Annapurna School and per say adequate number of class rooms of 10, then the SCR would be unfavorable to this school compared to Annapurna the way same class rooms count was used for multiple schools. 3) Speaking of counting the teachers who are on vacation is not an issue, like you referred in your January 11, 2010 response. But continue to take salary in one school [for the statistics purpose] but actually keep on working in a different school for an extended period of time is an unusual concept. Surprisingly, it appears to be a common pattern at least in East Godavari Schools, as I keep inquiring school after the school. Hopefully, following your inquiry this pattern can become to an end for a good cause. Otherwise, in an important are a of teacher to student ratio, for the qualify of education point of view, per school to school the number of teachers reporting point of view, it effects drastically with drastically undermining the value of this data gathering. If needed, I will follow-up on this issue with more data gathering. Sincerely, Prasadbabu |

posted: 1/11/2010 5:03:34 PM Dear Mr. Prasadbabu,This is in reference to your comments (dated 27-11-2009) posted on the website www.schoolreportcards.in . Let me thank you for writing to us regarding the discrepancies in the data. The data reported on the website schoolreportcards.in is collected once in a year, with record date as 30th September each year. Being a mammoth exercise, the collection of data more than once in a year is difficult, as of now. As you have rightly pointed out that the school's compound wall is broken and shown as the Pucca Boundary wall in the School Report Cards. Let me clarify to you that this data is reported nobody else than the Head Master/Head Teacher of the School. The Data Capture Format used by us has the provision of capturing the information on "Schools having Puuca but broken boundary walls" [Pucca (1) / Pucca but broken (2)/barbed wire fencing (3)/Hedges (4)/No boundary wall (5)/others (6)/Partial (7)]. The Pucca but broken boundary wall has been reported by the following schools of the same block (28144101002, 28144101305, 28144101201, 28144101203, 28144100601). Moreover, it should also be considered that the grants, under SSA (visit www.ssa.nic.in for more), will not be provided for an existing compound wall, until the requirement of compound wall is saturated across the District. The Classrooms require major repair or other major repairs required by the school may be proposed in the Annual Work Plan under SSA. It may kindly be noted that the Civil Works budget for each District cannot be beyond the 33% of the overall budget for the entire year. Therefore, some of the civil works are staggered over the years. As far as the data on teachers is concerned we take into account all such teachers who are appointed for the school, if some teachers are on leave they will still be considered part and parcel of the same school. Let me once again thank you for your keen interest in School Report Cards and assure you that we will take up the matter with concerned State and District authorities and seek clarification on the same. We firmly believe that this type of feedbacks will certainly help us in improving the quality of DISE data. Keep writing! Regards, Shalender Sharma Chief Consultant (MIS) Technical Support Group, SSA, Ed.CIL, 10-B, Indraprashta Estate, New Delhi - 110002, India |

There are bugs and some data are not up-to-date, but hope everything will improve over time. This was part of our dream long time back when I used to work for the DISE (EMIS) project in 90s with Late Yogesh Agarwal. posted: 11/27/2009 1:19:43 AM Yesterday, I come across through a teacher about your website. Like all the previous guests wrote about the great work you did to create this data, it is amazing the task you took and completed so far. Being more familiar with my school at Vakatippa Village, KAPILESWARAPURAM, EG Dist, AP( School Code : 28144101401) , I realized that the information is not upto date and I am requesting the school to update info accordingly so it reflects with facts. For example, a) the compound wall was fallen years ago and not repaired/replaced yet. But the data report indicates as if the school has a compound wall and none of the reports talk about the fallen wall, see the status of the wall in the photo below.b) The data shows that four teachers were approved and as if all four are working at the school. But in fact hardly two or three teacher were assigned/posted at a time - thus it offsets the stated teacher to student ratio too. c) The teachers felt as if enough funds were not available to the routine requirement, not to mention about replace/repairing the compound wall, to repair/complete the remaining three rooms to use – yet per the year 2006, your report points out that the school hardly utilized Rs550 of the at that time available Rs 5,000.00. Since the data is available on your system, the information is available to all and keeps pressure on the teachers and administrators to keep upto the mark, as the donors will verify for the accuracy and for the efficiency. I once again I congratulate you for the great achievement you made. Please see if you can coordinate the funding contribution to Vidyanidhi and or provide information as to how FCRA/FC funds can be contributed to the school system, let it be for the rooms, compound wall, for the awards etc. I will explore all your menus, incase if you specified such information, or else I will contact the respective in charge supervising this project. Once again thanks Prasadbabu USA Current school compound wall, perhaps it can be seen at the below link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/asha-hyd-core/attachments/folder/45540216/item/2084680224/view |

posted: 9/24/2009 12:29:37 AM This is mindboggling levels of information. And an absolute need for the policy makers and decision makers of our education system. My amazing is being never ending, when I see the year of estabilishment of the schools hover around 1940s and we are still in certain stage, which we all unianimously not happy with. And also that this job started in 1995, has taken 14+ years to get to this stage of Information analytics. But, we are there. Its time for us to make the great works of Mr. Arun Mehtha and take our education system to much higher levels. My dream is that every government school (80% of our schools) operate at a level of efficiency and quality, that every other top class private school envy about. Let us make it happen. |
